STV at 100: Bringing New Passenger Rail Options to the West Coast

In the early 1990s, STV was contracted as the General Engineering Consultant for a brand new commuter rail service in Southern California - Metrolink. Ever since, STV has supported the development and expansion of Metrolink, all the while building a stronger presence on the West Coast of the U.S. Metrolink is now Southern California's premier regional passenger rail system, serving more than 55 stations across the region.


STV at 100: Taking the High Roads

Since the onset of the National Interstate and Defense of Highways Act of 1956, one of the largest public works projects in American history, STV has played an instrumental role in the planning, design and construction management of many integral highways and roadways that serve hundreds of thousands of motorists every day. Projects featured in this video include the design of a section of the Central Artery/Tunnel in Boston; emergency design repairs for I-95 in Bridgeport, CT; construction management of a section of the Tri-State Tollway in Illinois;and the design of the I-85/I-485 "Turbine" interchange in North Carolina.

For more than half a century, STV and its predecessors have supported the design and construction of a variety of bridge spans. More recently, the firm has grown into an industry leader for the planning, design and construction management of specialty bridge types, such as moveable bridges, inter-coastal bridges and unique pedestrian bridges.

STV at 100: Supporting the Space Age

"Supporting the Space Age" looks back at a unique juncture in history, when mankind aspired to send a human being to the moon. STV predecessors Seelye Stevenson Value & Knecht (SSV&K) was instrumental in the design and construction of Kennedy Space Center in the 1960s, starting a relationship with NASA that would continue for four decades. The video features NASA's Vehicle Assembly Building, which was built to accommodate the vertical assembly of the Saturn rockets for the Apollo Space Mission. SSV&K was a key member of the joint venture team.

Throughout its history, STV has provided planning, design and construction management services for some of the most significant research laboratories in the United States, including FermiLab in Batavia, IL, and the Viral Rickettsial Laboratory for the Centers for Disease Control. These facilities have enabled scientists to perform award-winning research that has positively impacted the scientific community.


Teaming Up for a Historic Effort in Hoboken

The opening of the Hoboken Ferry Terminal in New Jersey marked the culmination of a 15-year effort by STV, which led a team of subconsultants and worked diligently with the client and multiple stakeholders on the redevelopment and rehabilitation of the Hoboken Terminal and Yard complex. The Ferry Terminal is listed on the New Jersey and National Registers of Historic Places and is one of the last grand operating ferry terminals in the country. It is an integral part of the Hoboken Terminal, which serves nearly 60,000 commuters each weekday.
