Reconstruction of East 8th Street Bridge Over Belt Parkway (Brooklyn, NY)
The East 8th Street Bridge/Access Ramp provides motorists access to the westbound Belt Parkway. When the aging four-span multi-girder steel bridge began to deteriorate, the New York City DOT selected STV to provide bridge, seismic and structural engineering design for its reconstruction. The firm designed a new, 350-foot four-span continuous curved steel girder superstructure supporting a cast-in-place reinforced concrete deck. The reconstruction improved local access to the Belt Parkway, made the access ramp safer and brought the bridge into compliance with current safety standards. Closed since February 2010, the bridge re-opened to traffic in December 2011.
