STV served as the design architect and interior designer for a renovation and expansion of the Washington County Central Library. The building, which grew from 46,233 sf to 84,758 sf, has become a state-of-the-art educational, research, and entertainment destination. STV developed architectural concepts for the new building using a portion of the previous structure and then provided the architectural exterior and interior design that included finishes, fixtures, furniture, and equipment packages, creating a theme that conveys the region's rich history as a transportation and industrial hub. The focal point is a three-story open atrium with a circular staircase, which serves as a central circulation hub and brings natural light to all levels. The design incorporates new young adult areas, new children’s areas, a 3,000-sf community room with a lobby for performances and other cultural events, private instruction rooms with networked computers, and a dedicated public computer area. STV is pursuing LEED Silver certification for the building.
