Design-Build Relocation of U.S. Coast Guard Sector Building (Houston, TX)
STV, as a subconsultant to Mortenson Construction, designed a new $42 million U.S. Coast Guard sector field office to replace an older building that sustained extensive damage as a result of Hurricane Ike in 2008. Working with a group of 10 contractors, STV provided all of the architectural designs along with the civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and landscape plans for the four-story, 111,500-sf building. It is engineered to meet Department of Defense Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection standards as well as Category 3 hurricane conditions and contains extensive support spaces to allow continuous 72-hour operation with no outside services for 214 full-time and 435 transient occupants. The building earned LEED® Silver certification for its improved thermal and solar performance, energy efficiency and rainwater harvesting system.
