STV provided owner’s representative services on behalf of the Empire State Development Corporation (ESDC) during construction of the Barclays Center Arena and relocation of the Atlantic Yards. STV monitored and recommended actions for all areas of this high-profile, $4.9 billion project. Focusing on work progress and safety, STV led the design reviews required to confirm the developer’s compliance with ESDC’s project design guidelines. The Vanderbilt Yard was a key focus area for the developer’s contractor and STV. The scope of work called for lowering the northern half of the yard while the southern half remained in service. This required extensive pile-driving and tieback installation to support the excavation, as well as a unique temporary structural support system to support an existing car shop along the north side of the yard. STV’s hands-on design approach, field expertise, and technology-driven project controls systems enabled the successful orchestration and outcome of the project.
