As more bicyclists take to the roads of Boston for commuting and recreation, amenities such as secure parking and repair facilities are needed. Using an underground garage centrally located in Boston Common, the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority contracted STV to design a bicycle enclosure where cyclists can safely park and maintain their bikes.

STV developed construction drawings, specifications, cost estimates and construction phasing plans for a steel-framed bicycle enclosure within an existing space of the garage that did not require the elimination of any vehicle parking. The design uses floor-level and overhead racks to store about 40 bikes within the 430-square-foot area which also includes a repair station.

To minimize any disruption for customers of the heavily used garage, STV developed a construction plan for the enclosure to be assembled off site and then transported into place.
