Cerone Bus Maintenance Facility Expansion

To reduce environmentally damaging emissions and promote “clean” transportation, the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) expanded its bus fleet from 720 buses to 1,050 buses to include hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. These high-tech, cutting-edge buses have specialized maintenance needs that the original Cerone Complex was not equipped to handle.

STV provided architectural and engineering design services for the $13 million renovation and expansion of the facility to meet the new vehicles’ needs. The Operating and Maintenance Division facilities were expanded to provide capacity for 300 buses. The Heavy Repair, Paint and Body, and Component Rebuild divisions were expanded to accommodate 750 buses.

All designs were in compliance with stringent California Air Resources Board Public Transit Bus Fleet Rule and Emission Standards as well as with the California Code of Regulations.
