With traffic congestion becoming an increasing concern in the San Fernando Valley, public officials turned to bus rapid transit (BRT) as a solution. A BRT system offered the benefits of light rail — high capacity, frequent service and active stations — without the cost of rail track and facilities. For this $320 million design-build project, STV performed preliminary engineering, design development and construction support services. The innovative 13-station BRT line uses a former railroad’s right-of-way to bypass much of the congestion.
