Orangeburg Pedestrian Bridge at South Carolina State University

Traffic along Chestnut Street (U.S. 21) in Orangeburg has risen sharply over the past few decades creating a significant safety issue for the more than 1,000 students who live in two housing complexes across a busy five-lane road that runs along the South Carolina State University (SC State) campus.

STV was brought on board in 2013 and has served in an evolving role providing design and project management services for the construction of a 93-foot prefabricated bridge that also serves as a gateway to the campus. The firm designed the twin brick towers at each end of the bridge that are topped by signature blue canopies and the university's circular garnet red logos.

Working with the bridge manufacturer and the project team, STV was able to meet the university's goal of finishing the $4.2 million project in time for the 2017/18 academic year.
