Routine inspection of a 6-inch high-pressure petroleum products pipeline revealed an exposure of the pipeline within Otter Creek in LaSalle Township, MI. STV determined that a 555-foot mini-directional drill parallel to the existing pipeline would mitigate the exposure, due to the confined space between highway and railroad embankments. The drill was installed approximately 23 feet below the stream bottom to minimize the potential for hydrofracture within the stream. The existing pipeline was cleaned, capped and grouted. STV performed design engineering and environmental permitting services.
