paulPaul Tyrell, P.E., P.L.S., LEED AP, DBIA, vice president and chief civil engineer in our Boston office, was recently named Surveyor of the Year by the Massachusetts Association of Land Surveyors and Civil Engineers (MALSCE) at the organization’s 2021 Virtual Conference.

Since 1954, the MALSCE has recognized land surveyors and civil engineers as vital industry professionals and promoted technical standards and practices, as well as peer networking opportunities. Awarded by the organization’s board of directors, the honor recognizes surveyors who provide outstanding leadership.

Tyrell is a chairman on the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Engineers and Land Surveyors (MBRELS). As chairman of the MALSCE Board, Tyrell presents at engineering, surveying, and industry organization events, as well as universities to educate professionals and students about the regulations governing their careers.

Tyrell’s Surveyor of the Year award recognizes his 10-year tenure on the board, and his drive to support fellow and future professionals.

“I started my membership in the MALSCE organization while I was still in college. It gave me the chance to meet many of the most recognized engineers and surveyors in Massachusetts,” Tyrell said. My career at STV has provided me with the opportunities to help me reach a level where my name is among all the other past award recipients. It’s very humbling.”

Tyrell currently serves as Treasurer of the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors and is also a member of the Society for American Military Engineers and the Construction Management Association of America. In 2017, he received the Ralph Horne Award from the Boston Society of Civil Engineers, presented to professional engineers for supporting their community and the public.
