Asbury Park Transportation Improvement Study
Once a thriving center of commercial, residential, and recreational activity, Asbury Park, NJ, faced decline by the end of the 20th century. Monmouth County retained STV to study opportunities and strategies for improving transportation in the central business district, waterfront, and residential areas of Asbury Park to help spur development.
Drawing on the existing central business district and waterfront redevelopment plans, the firm worked with the county to develop appropriate types and levels of transportation improvements that also took advantage of Asbury Park’s rich history. Various types of transportation strategies were explored that provided a balance between multiple modes of transportation i.e., pedestrian, vehicular, bicycle, and transit. Among the recommendations was a heritage trolley service to promote Asbury Park’s fun, leisurely atmosphere while allowing visitors and residents to explore the city.
