Cesar E. Chavez Education Center

Located in the densely populated Fruitvale/San Antonio neighborhood in Oakland, the Cesar E. Chavez Education Center provides educational resources for the entire community – including pre-K-5th grade students, and parents.

STV/VBN was contracted by the Oakland Unified School District to provide architectural design for the 95,000-square-foot facility, which features 25 classrooms with outdoor learning patios or shared decks, a special-purpose room for art and science, adaptable administrative offices, a parent resource center, and a multipurpose room. The firm’s design maximizes daylighting through a combination of controlled south-facing glazing with sunscreens, diffuse north-facing glazing, and translucent sandwich panel skylights.
