Davis Barracks at United States Military Academy

STV, in joint venture, provided architectural and engineering design services for the bridging documents of a new barracks at the U.S. Military Academy. The 287,000-square-foot, six-story Davis Barracks houses five companies of cadets (a total of 650), with each company occupying a single contiguous floor. STV’s design for the barracks combines sensitivity to its context on a National Historic Landmark campus with extensive use of hand-set granite stone for the exterior facade and double-glazed insulated windows to enhance cadet living and study quarters.

The ground floor houses mechanical rooms and space for a future chiller plant to serve neighboring barracks. Floors two to six house cadet living quarters. The firm incorporated sustainable design features to meet the project’s goal of LEED® Silver certification and used Building Information Modeling (BIM) software to create the bid documents and renderings. Renewable energy components include passive solar design principles, transpired solar collectors, and hot water solar panels on the roof.
