DSNY Bronx Garage Facility Reconstruction

As part of an overarching plan to improve outdated sanitation facilities across the five boroughs, the New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) prioritized the update of a 200,000-truck maintenance garage in the Bronx. DSNY selected STV, in a joint venture, to provide construction management services the three-phase project. Phase one entails the construction of a temporary swing space to maintain operations, phase two calls for the demolition of the existing three-building garage, and phase three involves the construction of the new two-building garage.

Chief among the project’s challenges is acquiring all necessary approvals for the temporary swing space; which can be challenging in a highly-populated city. The firm is also assisting with New York City Department of Environmental Conservation permitting, which is affected by the proximity of the nearby Westchester Creek. Once complete, the new multi-district garage facility will meet requirements to be certified as LEED Silver and will meet parameters of ADA compliance.
