Durham-Orange Light Rail Transit
GoTriangle undertook an alternatives analysis for three transit corridors in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill triangle region. STV served as a subconsultant for this study. One of these corridors, the Durham-Orange Light Rail Project, was approved for project development. The $1.6 billion project covers 17.1 miles and runs between Chapel Hill and Durham, NC, with 17 stations. The line will connect the University of North Carolina (UNC) Chapel Hill, UNC Hospitals, the proposed Leigh Village development, Patterson Place and South Square commercial centers, Duke University, Duke Medical Center, Durham VA Hospital, and governmental, commercial, and cultural centers in downtown Durham.
STV was responsible for various sections of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS), as well as preliminary engineering design services for light rail and highway bridges; a maintenance facility; systems engineering, including traction power, communications and train control; and the design criteria for the procurement of the light rail vehicles.
