HRT New Southside Operating Division
Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) provides transportation services via bus, light rail, ferry, paratransit and other commuter alternatives programs to over 1.34 million people in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. Its bus division consists of 72 routes and approximately 300 bus vehicles.
To better support expanded service for the Regional Transit System (RTS) and HRT’s planned transition to zero emission bus technology, STV is providing design services for a new operating facility in Virginia Beach. Replacing the existing facility, the new HRT campus will be equipped to service, maintain, and store new buses, accommodating HRT’s goal of transitioning to an all-electric fleet.
Designed to be net-zero ready, the facility reduces the energy needs of HRT’s campus through current design strategies such as integrating geothermal heating, high-efficiency mechanical pumps, and operational controls, among other design considerations.
