Johnson Houses
After years of water penetration emanating from the development's roofs and brick facades, the James Weldon Johnson Houses in Manhattan were in a state of disrepair. To address the situation, the New York City Housing Authority retained STV, under a task-order contract, to provide construction management services for a two-phased renovation.
The $45.8 million first phase included major structural repairs: renovations of 488 occupied apartments and 36 vacant apartments; hallway and stairwell upgrades; exterior brick repairs; and full roof replacement, as well as asbestos abatement of six buildings and two off-set roofs totaling more than 40,000 square feet. For the $58 million second phase, the firm oversaw structural repairs, roof replacement, asbestos abatement, and gut renovations of 662 occupied apartments and the modernization of 107 vacant apartments.
