Jordan River Service Center Yard and Shop

To better support the needs of its expanding light rail transit system, STV was contracted by the Utah Transit Authority to develop designs for a new maintenance facility and yard capable of accommodating up to 100 articulated light rail vehicles. STV was the prime designer for the yard portion of the project, which consisted of ballasted railroad tracks, four storage tracks, one-yard runaround loop track to provide connection to the main line by a double crossover, electrical overhead contact system, connections to the West Valley City main line tracks, and site grading.

The project was fast-tracked as a result of federal stimulus funding requirements and the need for concurrent design of the yard and shop with the West Valley City tracks. As a result, the firm executed its preparation of construction documents on an accelerated timeline. The $40 million project was ultimately delivered on time and within budget.
