LIRR Elmont-UBS Arena Station

As the first new Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) station to be designed and built in more than 45 years, Elmont-UBS Arena Station is the key transportation component of the $1.26 billion Belmont Park Redevelopment Project, which includes the 19,000-seat UBS Arena – home to the New York Islanders hockey team – as well as a hotel and retail village.

STV is the architect- and engineer-of-record for this design-build project, which is being led by Judlau and is owned by MTA Construction & Development and LIRR. Located between the Queens Village and Bellerose stations on the LIRR’s Main Line, and straddling the heavily traveled Cross Island Parkway, Elmont Station relieves pressure on the existing seasonal-use station directly south of it that serves the Belmont Park racetrack, while also improving commuting options for area residents.

STV managed the overall design process and developed final architectural, structural, systems and civil designs, plus specialized mechanical designs for a snow melting system embedded in the concrete platforms. STV also provided project controls services, geotechnical analysis, construction staging plans and maintenance and protection of traffic schemes.

The fully ADA-compliant station has three levels: a grade-level entrance, a platform level, and a 20-foot-wide pedestrian overpass bridge with elevator services that links the eastbound and westbound platforms.
