MD Route 97 and Randolph Road
MD 97 is a major north-south arterial roadway that intersects a high-volume east-west county roadway, Randolph Road, in the Glenmont area of Montgomery County, MD. STV was selected by the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration to perform final design services for improvements at the intersection that aim to reduce congestion, enhance safety, and augment vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle mobility.
The project’s scope consisted of depressing two through-lanes in each direction along Randolph Road beneath MD 97. Additionally, an at-grade intersection was upgraded to allow local traffic access and to maintain turning movements at the intersection. The approach roadways of MD 97 and Randolph Road were widened and enhanced with wider green spaces, sidewalks, and new bicycle facilities. The firm also designed the extension of the Glenmont Greenway south of Randolph Road, grading and landscaping improvements, as well as the integration of a multiuse path with pedestrian lighting, benches, and litter receptacles.
