A population boom in Huntersville, NC, has led to traffic congestion at the US 21/Gilead Road intersection. To make the intersection more accessible to motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists, the Town of Huntersville in conjunction with the North Carolina Department of Transportation has planned a whole host of improvements, including construction of a median U-turn intersection to eliminate left turns and enhance operational efficiency. STV performed a range of engineering design services for this project.

Other improvements include a multi-use path, wider outside lanes and bike lanes. New pedestrian countdown signals at intersections and within median refuges will improve safety for pedestrians.
