WeGo Star Regional Rail

To meet Tennessee’s growing need for improved commuter mobility and to reduce highway congestion, the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Middle Tennessee (MTA) and Nashville Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) created a new commuter rail service to run between Riverfront and Lebanon, TN. STV, in joint venture, provided preliminary engineering and final design services for all aspects of the 32-mile, six-station commuter rail line project, formerly known as Music City Star regional rail and now called the WeGo Star.

The firm prepared an Environmental Assessment during the preliminary engineering phase, identified the level of improvements necessary, analyzed potential sites for each station, and made recommendations to the MTA. From there, STV developed a preliminary site plan and final design for the tracks, station platforms, canopies, and communication system. Among the project’s challenges was the reconstruction of 28 grade crossings and replacement of eight of the twelve bridges along the corridor.
