As the second-busiest rapid transit system in the United States, the Chicago Transit Authority’s (CTA) traction power system needed to be updated to meet growing ridership. The CTA selected STV to provide construction management services for the modernization of three substations across the system at East Lake, Milwaukee and Illinois. Improvements included structural renovations that extended the service lives of the substation buildings.

As part of its contract, STV was responsible for the maintenance-of-traffic coordination, track outages, and safety oversight to mitigate rider impact while staying on schedule. The firm provided administrative, management, technical, and support services, coordinating between multiple city and state organizations. Additionally, STV contributed design review for the remediation of hazardous materials.
