King Street Maintenance Facility
STV provided programming and preliminary through final design services for Amtrak’s King Street Maintenance Facility in Seattle. The 176,500-square-foot complex includes a two-story, six-track maintenance facility with combined offices and warehouse space, and a service inspection facility with drop table; wheel profiling lathes; bridge cranes; and brake, metal, and electrical shops.
To power the facility which is used to maintain Amtrak’s diesel locomotives, STV designed a new 2.5-MVA transformer, substations, and switchgear. The firm also designed the electrical systems to support the HVAC and exhaust systems necessary for diesel locomotive repair. Under an additional contract with Amtrak, STV provided design services to renovate the train yard’s tracks and utilities.
