As part of our commitment to delivering sustainable multimodal connectivity, we recently celebrated the opening of the Cowan Road Multi-Use Trail in Acworth, GA. This project is the latest milestone in Acworth’s mission to create a more walkable and golf-cart-accessible city that enhances mobility and fosters a sense of community.
For years, Acworth has invested in its pedestrian and multimodal infrastructure, building approximately 11 miles of paths accessible to golf carts that connect neighborhoods to the town center. The new Cowan Road Multi-Use Trail is a key addition to this growing network, linking hundreds of families in the Spring Meadow neighborhood to Acworth’s existing trail systems. By improving accessibility and supporting the city’s connectivity goals, this trail is helping to transform the way residents and visitors move through the area.
STV provided comprehensive design services for this program, including surveying, engineering, hydrology and floodplain analysis.
The recent ribbon cutting celebrated the opening of the trail’s first phase: a half-mile-long, 10-foot-wide sidewalk segment running along Cowan Road from the Acworth Trail entrance at Spring Street to Spring Meadow Drive – just a short walk from our Acworth office. The second phase, extending the trail another half mile, is set to begin construction next year, with design work already completed by our Acworth team.
The project builds on our earlier contributions to Acworth’s trail network. In March 2024, we celebrated the completion of a new 226-foot-long, 10-foot-wide concrete-and-steel bridge over Tanyard Creek, connecting Logan Farm Park to Cowan Road. This upgrade replaced an older bridge in need of maintenance and lacking space for golf carts, enhancing connectivity to downtown Acworth’s restaurants, shops and parks.
Acworth’s trail network isn’t just about improving local mobility – it’s about creating a community-oriented vision for the future. As the city expands its infrastructure, we’re proud to continue our partnership with Acworth. Our team is currently designing an additional two miles of a 10-foot-wide multi-use path along Due West Road, connecting to Lake Acworth, with plans to extend the segment to 4.5 miles in the future.
Across Georgia and beyond, we are dedicated to delivering context-sensitive infrastructure that balances functionality, sustainability and community needs. Projects like the Cowan Road Multi-Use Trail showcase our expertise in crafting multimodal solutions that enhance quality of life, support economic development and promote healthier, more connected communities.
