The American Council of Engineering Companies of Connecticut (ACEC/CT) has recognized the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s (CTDOT) Reconstruction of Interchange 33 on Interstate 95 in Stratford, CT, with a 2024 Engineering Excellence Award (EEA). STV served as the prime design consultant for the program.

The EEA acknowledges outstanding achievement in engineering projects and also serves as a testament to the diversity and breadth of excellence across various project types, clients, and engineering disciplines.

This award from ACEC/CT qualifies the project for entry for ACEC’s National EEA next year.

As the prime design consultant, the STV team played a key role in the reconstruction of Interchange 33 on I-95, transforming it into a full “diamond” interchange. This project aimed to enhance mobility and alleviate congestion in Stratford, particularly at the crucial connection point with U.S. Route 1. The surrounding roadway network is vital for both access and economic development.

Beyond the introduction of new highway ramps and improvements to the adjacent intersection, the project involved constructing a new bridge and widening an existing one. Notably, this area presented challenges due to a high level of contaminated materials, prompting our team to employ an innovative design approach to minimize disruption.
