Anissa Calamaco, EIT, a water engineering specialist at STV, has been honored with the 2026 Young Professional Maverick Award by the Texas Section of the American Water Works Association (TAWWA).
The Maverick Award is one of TAWWA’s highest honors for professionals under 35, recognizing individuals who excel in volunteerism, community involvement, leadership and outstanding service in the science of water supply, treatment, operations and water quality across the state’s water sector.
“This recognition reflects the strength of the Texas water community and the opportunity I’ve had to learn from it,” Calamaco said. “Being part of work that helps communities plan for growth and protect their water systems is what motivates me. I’m incredibly grateful for the mentors, peers, and friends who make the Texas water community such a strong and welcoming one and for the opportunity to lead, connect and give back.”
Based in San Antonio, Calamaco supports water infrastructure projects across Texas, contributing to planning, design and coordination efforts that help communities respond to growth, evolving regulations and system demands – from early-stage planning through project delivery.
In addition to her technical work, she is actively engaged in the Texas water community through professional involvement and knowledge sharing with fellow young professionals, helping foster collaboration and leadership development within the industry. She serves as the Young Professional Committee Chair for the South Texas AWWA Chapter.
“Anissa represents the next generation of water leaders in Texas,” said Marisa Vergara, senior vice president and regional director for STV’s water group. “Her technical skills, curiosity, and commitment to service exemplify what the TAWWA Maverick Award stands for, and we’re proud to see her contributions recognized by peers across the Texas water community.”
