Iris Giboyeaux, CCM, ENV SP, director of operations for STV’s Northeast transportation group, was recently selected to join the National Construction Management Association of America’s (CMAA) Board of Governors for its upcoming term.
“I started out volunteering as a member in my local chapter, hosting my own events on behalf of CMAA,” Giboyeaux said.
As a result of her initiative and enthusiasm, in 2021, Giboyeaux was appointed to the chapter’s board as director of communications and has been serving in that position ever since.
During her tenure, she’s been mentored by Raoul Ilaw, P.E., CCM, FCMAA, STV vice president, senior program manager, and outgoing chairman of the Board of Governors for CMAA National’s Construction Management Certification Institute (CMCI).
“There’s no end to the benefits of industry involvement. Raoul and I both know that the more you share, the greater the reward,” Giboyeaux added
“I’m a strong believer in professional organization involvement, and Iris’s forward-thinking mindset will make an excellent addition to the Board,” Ilaw said. “With her transportation work in highways, wastewater, and building up (not just out), she’ll bring a valuable new perspective to the team.”
With almost 15 years of service to CMAA, including officer positions in her local Metropolitan chapter, Giboyeaux will kick off the new year with a two-year term on the national level – accelerating past the standard progression of a presidency of her local chapter.
“Leaders emerge from CMAA’s local chapters,” said Richard Amodei, president of Transportation Northeast. “Iris is widely known as a distinguished leader who will bring a wealth of knowledge, dedication and energy to this national position, and I look forward to her future accomplishments as she expands the organization’s reach to mentor, educate and grow construction managers and the industry as a whole to serve our clients and communities nationwide.”
As she sets her sights on the beginning of her two-year national tenure, Giboyeaux acknowledged the responsibility and potential of the role.
“Serving on the Board of Governors is a unique opportunity to influence the policies and procedures affecting the criteria for professional credentials as well as a platform to redefine the role of a CCM within our ever-changing industry,” she said. “You’re at the forefront of designing certification exams, rewriting texts for the professional public, and ensuring the organization’s materials frame and reflect the evolving market for future leaders.”
