Lauren Garoppo, an engineering specialist in STV’s Vehicles group, was recently named secretary of the American Public Transportation Association’s (APTA) Rolling Stock Equipment Technical Forum.
In this role, Garoppo will support the committee in achieving its mission: to advance the state-of-the-art design, application, procurement, operation and maintenance of railcar rolling stock equipment with emphasis on technical issues, passenger safety, energy efficiency and standardization.
“I am very excited about my recent appointment to this forum,” Garoppo said. “I am honored to have been recommended for this role by my colleagues, and I hope to use my position to not only expand my knowledge but to expand STV’s industry reach. This role is a great way for me to increase my involvement with APTA, which has been an excellent organization for developing my knowledge about new transportation advancements and meeting new people in the industry.”
Garoppo has been working at STV as a full-time engineer for six years and was also an STV intern for six months during college. As part of the Vehicles team, she has gotten to work with a variety of clients, including Amtrak, New Jersey Transit, and the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA). Her project portfolio is just as diverse. She has traveled across the U.S. and the world to assist clients with coach cars, light rail vehicles, locomotives, and electric multiple units (EMUs).
To give back to her community, she leads STV’s participation in the ACE Mentor Program, an organization that partners with local high schools to teach and inspire students to pursue careers in the architecture, engineering, and construction fields.
