Fabian Mendoza, COL, USA (RET), senior vice president and Army program manager for STV’s federal team, has been named a fellow of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME). The SAME Fellow is one of the organization’s highest honors, a prestigious designation awarded to members who have demonstrated sustained contributions to the society, the profession and the advancement of engineering in support of national defense and public service.

“SAME has been a constant throughout my career, providing opportunities to serve, lead and learn alongside dedicated professionals across government, industry and the uniformed services,” Mendoza said. “Being named a SAME Fellow is a tremendous honor. I’m grateful to the mentors and colleagues who’ve shaped my journey, and I’m proud to continue supporting SAME’s mission.”

An active member of SAME since 1985, Mendoza’s involvement has spanned both domestic and international chapters, beginning with the Fort Belvoir Post in Virginia and continuing during service abroad in Iraq. Across those roles, his focus has consistently centered on mentorship, leadership continuity and ensuring the next generation of engineers is prepared to serve in complex federal environments.

Throughout his career, he has held several leadership roles, including President of the SAME Dallas Post, where he played a key role in growing membership, despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, led the transition to virtual programming to maintain professional connections and prioritized leadership development as a responsibility, not a credential. He currently serves on the Dallas Post Board of Directors as the Leader Development Chair.

Mendoza’s dedication to supporting civilian engineers and mentoring service members transitioning into the architecture, engineering and construction industry reflects a broader commitment to stewardship – helping ensure institutional knowledge, ethical leadership and public-service values carry forward beyond individual careers. His contributions have been recognized through honors such as the SAME Dallas Post Member of the Year Award, culminating in his elevation to the rank of SAME Fellow.

“Fabian’s recognition as a SAME Fellow reflects the depth of experience, integrity and commitment he brings to his work every day,” said Dewey Jones, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, senior vice president and national director of federal programs at STV. “His leadership within SAME and his dedication to developing others embody the values we strive to uphold across STV’s federal group.”

Mendoza will be formally inducted as a SAME Fellow during the 2026 SAME Joint Engineer Training Conference (JETC) in Portland, Oregon, an annual conference that combines technical education, industry collaboration and presentation of SAME’s awards and honors.
