STV recently joined Helping Up Mission – a nonprofit that provides services to people fighting addiction, homelessness and poverty for more than 140 years – along with community leaders and project partners to mark the groundbreaking of Recovery Park, a new 1.77‑acre green space in Baltimore’s Jonestown neighborhood.
STV is serving as the project’s lead design consultant, providing landscape architecture, civil engineering and surveying services aligned with Helping Up Mission’s long-standing, people-centered approach to recovery and community care.
Working closely with Helping Up Mission – many of whom are graduates of its recovery programs – STV’s team is focused on creating an accessible, welcoming outdoor environment designed to foster healing, connection and everyday use by both clients and neighbors.
The park will reflect Helping Up Mission’s belief that recovery is rooted in dignity, stability and connection to place.
“Recovery Park represents a meaningful investment in both people and place,” said Addison Palmer, vice president and Baltimore/D.C. area manager for STV’s buildings team. “It’s gratifying to see this project progress from vision to construction, knowing the positive impact it’ll have for both Helping Up Mission’s clients and the surrounding community.”
Located between Helping Up Mission’s Men’s Recovery Center and its Center for Women & Children, Recovery Park is designed as a shared outdoor space that serves individuals at different stages of recovery while extending a new community amenity into a dense urban neighborhood. The park reinforces Helping Up Mission’s continuum-of-care model, offering space for reflection, physical activity and informal gathering as part of daily life on campus.
Once complete, the park will feature walking paths, gardens, open lawns and areas for recreation and small gatherings – spaces intentionally designed to encourage routine, interaction and a sense of belonging.
STV will remain involved with this program throughout construction, partnering with the project team in carrying the park’s design intent through to completion and ensuring the space delivers long-term value for Helping Up Mission and the surrounding community.
