LaGuardia Airport’s (LGA) Terminal B earned the coveted five-star airport terminal rating from Skytrax, the leading airline and airport evaluation agency,  LGA’s Terminal B and Newark Liberty International Airport’s Terminal A – both owned by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) – are now two of the three North American airport facilities to earn Skytrax’s most prestigious rating. STV served as construction manager for LaGuardia’s Terminal B and lead designer for Newark’s Terminal A.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and LaGuardia Gateway Partners (LGP) recently announced the honor. In 2023, Terminal B became the first airport terminal in North America to earn this rating while simultaneously earning Skytrax’s “world’s best new airport terminal” designation. This recent renewal from Skytrax reaffirms Terminal B as a leading aviation hub in the world.

Part of the Port Authority’s transformative, $8 billion program to elevate LaGuardia into a world-class airport, STV, in joint venture, oversaw the redevelopment of Terminal B into a 1.3-million-square-foot facility featuring two “island” concourses, 35 gates, a four-story arrivals and departures hall, two parking garages, a new service entry substation, elevated roadways and new and upgraded utilities.

“From the start, our goal at LaGuardia was to create a new airport that would rise to the level of a 5-star Skytrax rating with a passenger experience that is truly world-class from curb to gate,” said Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton. “A 5-star rating from Skytrax is proof that working with our private partner, LaGuardia Gateway Partners, we have flipped the script at LaGuardia, which has gone from worst to what is now the nation’s best airport.”  

The Skytrax report noted that since receiving its first five-star rating in 2023, Terminal B has “continued to improve airport service quality and elevate the guest experience.”

Since opening to passengers in 2020, Terminal B has garnered several accolades, including LEED® Version 4 Gold certification, UNESCO’s 2021 Prix Versailles, and an inaugural Special Achievement Award from the National Academy of Construction. Forbes Travel Guide also named LaGuardia Airport the Best U.S. Airport in 2024. STV, in joint venture with Satterfield & Pontikes and in partnership with Turner Construction and Group PMX, also served as construction manager-as-agent for Delta Air Lines’ Terminal C at LaGuardia.
