On the heels of the Delta Sky Way program at Los Angeles International Airport’s (LAX) recent completion, the team has another reason to celebrate. The Construction Management Association of America’s Southern California (CMAASC) chapter selected the Delta Sky Way for its 2025 Project Achievement Award within the transportation category.
CMAASC recognized STV’s program management/construction management (PM/CM) and project controls teams for guiding the two-phase project that moved its hub of operations from Terminals 5 and 6 to Terminals 2 and 3 at LAX, adding nine new gates and opening one of the largest Delta Sky Clubs in the airline’s network. STV, in joint venture with Satterfield & Pontikes Construction (STV/S&P), supported the initiative that enhanced terminals 2 and 3 ahead of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.
The program encompassed upgrades to the central and West headhouse, a consolidated check-in lobby, security checkpoint and baggage claim facility – all while connecting the new 1.2 million-square-foot terminal to direct access to Tom Bradley International Terminal, eliminating the need for shuttle buses. The terminal also provides elevated connections to LAX’s Automated People Mover, set to open in 2026, via the new Terminal Vertical Cores. The 27-gate terminal also features the exclusive Delta One Lounge.

“We’re thrilled to see the project, Delta and our teams recognized by CMAA SoCal for a project that truly transforms aviation infrastructure in Los Angeles,” said Joe Thompson, senior vice president and national aviation practice lead.
As part of this program, Delta partnered with the Transit Security Administration (TSA) to integrate new facial recognition technology that will allow qualifying customers departing LAX to quickly check bags, pass through security, and board their flight via a digital ID. The enlarged security checkpoint also allows passengers a quicker transition from the curb to their gates. New passenger boarding bridges, upgraded and increased baggage handling system capacity, new bus gates, concession areas, and the Delta One Lounge with outdoor patio runway views all enhance the customer experience.

“Since 2016, our teams have supported Delta to carry this major program from start to finish amidst the COVID-19 pandemic– and we were able to finish 18 months ahead of schedule, an incredible feat for an airport program of this magnitude,” said Jason Foley, senior associate and project manager for the Delta Sky Way program. “I’m proud of everyone on our team who dedicated themselves to driving this monumental project for Los Angeles, for Delta and for LAX.”
The project team will accept the award at CMAA SoCal’s awards ceremony in June.
