STV’s Luis Delgado, CCM, PMP, president of the national construction management (CM) operating group, has been appointed as chair-elect of the Construction Management Association of America’s (CMAA) national board of directors.

Delgado will act as chair-elect for one year before stepping into the role of national chair for the 2024-2025 cycle.

With more than 20 years of active engagement in the organization, in this new role, Delgado will provide leadership and governance support; guide strategic planning; serve as representative for the organization; and provide comprehensive fiduciary oversight.

“I’m immensely honored to receive this recognition and continue supporting the association,” Delgado said. “I’ve seen what former board chairs have accomplished in the industry, and I feel very blessed to be given the same opportunity.”

Delgado first joined CMAA to obtain his CCM certification and he immediately took on leadership roles in the North Texas Chapter. During his time as the chapter’s president, CMAA North Texas was awarded its first “Chapter of the Year” (COY) award in recognition of its outstanding accomplishments. Due to the many strong foundational policies and appointments Delgado oversaw and championed before stepping down as president, the chapter won COY four times in five years.

Following his work on the local level, Delgado pivoted to national involvement, particularly the CMAA’s Regional Chapters Committee, which coordinates efforts between the nation’s 30 professional and student chapters. Eventually becoming chair of that committee, Delgado progressed to the national board of directors where he continued his work.

“One of my goals for 2024 is to continue the work for the potential international expansion of CMAA,” Delgado said.

Among his other goals, Delgado is focused on growth of BIPOC and minorities in leadership roles, and increased efforts in legislative proceedings that affect the industry.

“We hope to gain ground at the Federal level recognizing CCM certifications as the preferred choice for federal procurement opportunities,” Delgado said. “We want to provide the best possible services for the nation’s infrastructure.”

At STV, a major initiative has been establishing a goal of 100% certification for his team.

“As part of our strategic initiative to enhance professional skills and development, full-time employees can benefit from the certification program STV offers,” Delgado said. “We’ve created a certification committee within STV’s construction management group that’s spearheading group trainings, study sessions, and opportunities to put those certifications to use in new roles.”

Looking forward, Delgado hopes in his new leadership role, he can further inspire others of the value of CMAA as an organization.

“My hope is that I’m able to work with the board and the association to make advances in CMAA to benefit the industry, and elevating STV’s presence among our peers,” Delgado said. “I was introduced to CMAA early in my career and would love to do the same for others.”
