STV’s design work in support of a Dräger N95 mask Manufacturing Facility in Montgomeryville, PA, received a 2022 Diamond Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Pennsylvania (ACEC/PA). The project was honored in the Industrial and Manufacturing Processes and Facilities category.

In the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, German medical equipment manufacturer Dräger selected STV to perform design services to transform an unoccupied building into a new N95 mask manufacturing plant. The completed facility was capable of producing thousands of N95 face masks per day. The facility consists of 10,000 square feet of office space, with approximately 36,000 additional square feet to house manufacturing equipment and machines.

STV’s scope of work also included coordinating with local officials over the course of design and construction. Located in a rural area north of Philadelphia, the project created numerous new jobs in the region.

The firm’s project team was led by Kevin Bomboy, P.E., LEED AP, vice president and engineering director. The team had the challenge of completing this project within an incredibly tight timeframe of eight weeks. Dräger contracted STV in mid-June and the facility opened in early September 2020.

“These past two years have been filled with unrelenting challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and STV was able to see these challenges and provide assistance in combating them,” said Leeann Sherman, executive director of ACEC/PA. “Through this project, STV helped millions of Americans amid a very difficult time.”
