Matthew Barkley, vice president and planning director at STV, has been named vice chair of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Arizona Board of Directors.
ACEC Arizona is a statewide association representing engineering firms and supporting professional practice through advocacy, education and industry engagement. As vice chair, Barkley will participate in board governance activities and support the organization’s programs on behalf of its member firms.
At the start of his term, Barkley participated in ACEC Leadership Orientation in Washington, D.C., which introduces board officers and members to the organization’s structure and priorities and provides context on issues affecting the engineering profession at both the state and federal levels.
“Serving on the Board allows me to stay closely connected to Arizona’s engineering community, engage with policy makers and legislators regarding infrastructure funding and policy and contribute to conversations that strengthen the professional practice and workforce development across the state,” Barkley said. “ACEC creates a forum where firms can collaborate on shared challenges, and I value the opportunity to contribute to that work.”
Barkley leads STV’s planning group in Arizona, supporting teams delivering transportation and infrastructure projects across the state. Barkley has supported industry and community workforce initiatives in Arizona, including participation in ACEC Arizona–led STEM outreach efforts with the Arizona Department of Transportation and local partners to help build awareness of infrastructure careers and strengthen the future talent pipeline for the engineering profession.
