LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – STV today announced the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has selected the firm to work on a congestion relief and safety improvement project on Route 73 in Evesham Township, New Jersey.
STV will provide design and construction engineering services to transform a two-mile section of the highway from Milepost 21.9 to 23.9, where the current roadway capacity cannot support traffic demands, creating a persistent bottleneck for commuters.
“Smoother commutes make happier commuters,” said Kenneth Burkhardt, PE, PTOE, vice president and area manager at STV. “We look forward to designing a solution that will not only eliminate this bottleneck on Route 73 and reduce traffic congestion – giving people real time back in their day – but one that will also enhance driver safety and improve emergency response capabilities.”
The Route 73 Improvement project will enhance safety and accessibility for motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists. The project involves:
- Widening Route 73 to provide an additional through lane in both the southbound and northbound directions.
- Enhancing the signalized intersections to further improve operational effectiveness and safety.
- Constructing eight-foot shoulders, which will be added to improve safety and provide accommodation for emergency stops and accessibility.
- Constructing new sidewalks to fill gaps in the existing network, enhancing pedestrian mobility.
- Ensuring all curb ramps will be made compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, improving pedestrian safety.
STV has a long-standing track record of providing engineering design services, construction management and construction inspection services that support transformative transportation programs in the area, including the Atlantic City Expressway Third Lane Widening, Pennsylvania Turnpike Widening and I-95 Betsy Ross Interchange Reconstruction.
