Jeffrey Messinger, P.E., LEED AP BD+C, vice president and national transportation maintenance facilities practice leader, has been selected as an Outstanding Mentor of the Year by Engineering News-Record (ENR) magazine. Messinger was recognized for his dedication to the Architecture Construction and Engineering (ACE) mentor program, where he has been a volunteer for over 17 years and has helped guide over 500 students through meetings, college applications, scholarship submittals, and offered professional advice beyond graduation.
“I’m really humbled by this honor,” Messinger said. “The opportunity to encourage new candidates and bring in diverse talent is important for the entire industry.”
The ACE program has paired industry professionals with high school students pursuing careers in design and construction for over 25 years. Several STV offices and employees participate, including Milo Riverso, Ph.D., P.E., CCM, president, and chief executive officer, who is an executive committee member of the national board of directors and former New York chapter chairman.
Messinger’s nomination was accompanied by multiple testimonials from the team’s mentors and mentees.
“Jeff always makes himself available to help with lessons and offer advice,” said Dejana Harris, civil engineering specialist in the New York office.
Last year, Messinger was invited to join ACE GNY’s mentor committee in addition to his duties as co-captain. He now supports mentors with workshops and professional development events along with creating lesson plans and projects to engage first-time and returning mentees.
Messinger’s long-time dedication to ACE was also recognized last year when he was unanimously named the New York chapter’s 2019 mentor of the year. His national award will be featured in the 2020 ENR ACE yearbook and will be presented at the annual ACE ball.
