STV Vice President and Technical Director of Structural Engineering, Urbanism and Planning, Christopher Cerino, P.E., F.SEI, DBIA, recently traveled to Penn State University to participate in his alma mater’s 2023 Architectural Engineering (AE) Senior Thesis & Awards Banquet. He was one of 35 industry professionals invited to serve as jurors for the AE senior thesis presentations, which are the last requirement in the capstone five-year undergraduate program.
During the banquet, Cerino presented the Outstanding 5-Year Record of Study & Performance in Architectural Engineering Award, which is sponsored by STV and was bestowed to Autumn Majchrzak, a Class of 2023 graduate of the program who demonstrated exceptional academic achievement and a commitment to the industry.
“The Architectural Engineering program at Penn State is very unique,” Cerino said. “Through its five-year undergraduate studies, students are supremely prepared for all collaborative disciplines in the building and construction industry.”
The Penn State Department of Architectural Engineering offers the oldest continuously accredited architectural engineering program in the United States. The program produces professionals of four disciplinary specializations: structural engineering, mechanical engineering, lighting/electrical design, and construction management.
STV is looking to further its strong relationship with several programs at Penn State and is also welcoming two interns from the Penn State AE program this summer.
“We’re thrilled to sponsor this award and support the next generation of engineers,” said Kim Vierheilig, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, president of STV’s national buildings practice. “It’s essential that we invest in and mentor talented young minds and this award is just one way we are fulfilling that commitment.”
