NEW YORK, NY – Raj Navalurkar, Ph. D., P.E., has joined STV as vice president and bridge practice director for New York and New Jersey. In this role, Navalurkar will manage and develop the bridge team in both states and focus on the continued advancement of the firm’s technical capabilities in this market area.
“Raj is a seasoned project manager and possesses significant experience with some of the most complex infrastructure initiatives in the region,” said Will Flores, STV senior vice president and business unit leader for the firm’s transportation and infrastructure practice in New York. “I am confident his background and expertise will create opportunities for not just the bridge practice, but for all of our professional staff in New York and New Jersey.”
Prior to joining STV, Navalurkar served as vice president and program director for a national architectural and engineering firm, where he supported clients such as the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, New York City Department of Transportation, New York State Department of Transportation, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, New Jersey Department of Transportation, and Metropolitan Transportation Authority. His 27 years of experience includes roles as program director and project manager for high-profile stand-alone and on-call projects throughout New York City, including the evaluation and development of rehabilitation and replacement alternatives for both the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway segment from Atlantic Avenue to Sands Street and for the Brooklyn Bridge Promenade. Career highlights also include the design of the Driscoll Bridge Widening/Rehabilitation in Woodbridge, NJ, Newark Bay (Vincent R. Casciano Memorial) Bridge Rehabilitation in Newark, NJ, and Robert F. Kennedy Bridge Improvements in New York.
Navalurkar earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree from RV College of Engineering in India and a Master of Engineering and Ph. D. in civil engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). An active professor at NJIT, he has more than 24 years of teaching experience and his research interests include the development of high-performance concrete and ways to reduce cracking potential when used at an early age and exposed to loading. Navalurkar is a licensed professional engineer in New York and New Jersey.
