Employees from STV’s Franklin, TN, team recently gave back to their community by volunteering at Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, a Feeding America partner food bank that provides food to people facing hunger and works to advance hunger solutions across the Midstate.

Through its Grocery Rescue Program, Second Harvest rescues, sorts, and distributes frozen meat, dairy, produce, and dry groceries from 314 local grocery stores and other sources that otherwise would have ended up in a landfill. During its volunteer shift, the STV team helped sort and box 5,831 pounds of food – the equivalent of 4,859 meals.

“We appreciate our relationship with Second Harvest and the opportunities to serve our local communities,” said Jerry Stump, regional transportation group president. “It is an incredible feeling to know that you’ve helped many families who otherwise wouldn’t know when, or from where, their next meal may come.”

STV employees worked together to assemble, label, and recycle boxes; sort cold and frozen food; pack and weigh boxes; and ready completed pallets for distribution.

“As a new STV employee, it was great to participate in a social responsibility event, get to know my new colleagues and donate time to those suffering in food deserts in our own community,” said Deanna Lambert, regional communications director. “I’m proud to be part of a company that values giving back and puts its purpose – to make communities better – into action.”
