Soumabrata Dutta, PE, an associate engineer on STV’s transportation team in New York, recently received the Younger Member Award at the 59th Annual American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Metropolitan Section Awards Dinner. The award recognizes emerging leaders advancing the profession through technical work and industry engagement.
“ASCE has been an important part of my professional growth, from networking and technical learning to opportunities to volunteer and lead,” Dutta said. “It has connected me with other engineers in the region and reinforced the broader responsibility we have as engineers to contribute to the communities our work serves.”
Dutta brings structural engineering experience across transportation infrastructure and building projects, including bridge analysis, rehabilitation and design. A long-time member of the ASCE Metropolitan Section, he has remained actively involved through leadership and volunteer service, supported by STV’s collaborative environment and opportunities for multidisciplinary engagement. He was recently elected and inducted to the ASCE Metropolitan Section Board of Directors for a two-year term from 2026 to 2028. In this role, he will help oversee the section’s committees and assist the chair in supporting the section’s operations. He previously served as director of the ASCE Metropolitan Section from 2022 to 2024, as well as chair of its Structural Group. He currently serves as a mentor in the Younger Member Forum Mentorship Committee, a technical bridge member of ASCE Infrastructure 2050, and secretary of the Committee Engagement Committee at SEI National.
“This recognition reflects Dutta’s technical excellence, professionalism and dedication to both the engineering profession and the civil engineering community,” said Alireza Mohammadi, senior project manager on STV’s transportation team. “He consistently approaches every engineering effort he is involved in with rigor, curiosity and a collaborative mindset, and we are proud to see his contributions recognized by his peers through the ASCE Metropolitan Section.”
