STV’s Pennsylvania team recently demonstrated their ongoing commitment to inspiring the next generation of innovators by supporting two impactful STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) education events reaching students from elementary to high school.
Gina Venuto-Gabriella, engineering specialist at STV, represented the organization as part of WTS Philadelphia’s Student Outreach Committee, leading a hands-on STEAM workshop with nearly 50 5th-grade girls at Blackwood Elementary School in New Jersey. During the session – now in its fourth year – the students built paper bridges, tested straw gliders and explored how engineering and design principles come to life through experimentation, creativity and teamwork.
“Watching these young girls experiment, build and problem-solve reminds me of how important early access to STEAM opportunities truly is,” said Venuto-Gabriella. “I’m grateful for the support and guidance I’ve received from my volunteers who have helped shape how we show up for these students. Mentorship makes all the difference, for them and for me.”

Additionally, STV served as an Achiever Sponsor – the highest sponsorship level – at the WTS Central Pennsylvania chapter’s fourth annual STEAM Day held at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg. The event introduced young women in grades 9–12 to emerging fields, including environmental science, bridge and foundation design, virtual reality, AI and digital delivery, through interactive activities and presentations led by industry experts. This year’s event welcomed 190 students and 100 volunteers from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission and partner consulting firms.
STV team members David Meckes, Barbara Hoehne and Elizabeth Jones volunteered throughout the day, helping guide students through activities and discussions.
“Every year, we see more students leaning in, asking questions and imagining themselves in these careers,” said Hoehne, engineering director at STV. “Supporting STEAM Day is one of the most meaningful ways we can help build a more inclusive and innovative future for our industry.”
Jones, an engineering specialist at STV, added, “Events like these give students a chance to see what’s possible. If even one student walks away feeling inspired, that’s a win for all of us.”
