UMass Memorial Health recently celebrated the start of construction for its new Satellite Emergency Facility (SEF) in Groton, Massachusetts, marking a major step forward in expanding access to emergency care across the Nashoba Region.  

STV is serving as the Owner’s Project Manager (OPM) for the project, overseeing design, permitting, construction and regulatory approvals to bring this crucial healthcare resource to the community. 

“This project demonstrates the value of having a strong partner to guide complex healthcare initiatives,” said Chris Andersen, senior project manager for STV’s program management and construction management (PM/CM) team. “From design through regulatory approvals, our team is helping UMass Memorial deliver a facility that will save lives and strengthen the healthcare network across the region.” 

Once complete, the SEF will provide the same caliber of adult and pediatric emergency care as a traditional hospital emergency department, and will include a helipad for critical transport, emergency care beds and imaging services. The Groton location was carefully selected to address regional needs, including emergency medical service response times and access to high-quality healthcare. 

Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey and other state officials attended the groundbreaking ceremony, emphasizing the project’s role in expanding affordable, accessible healthcare throughout the region. 

The project reflects STV’s continued leadership in delivering complex healthcare facilities that enhance community well-being and access to care.
