NEW YORK, NY – STV, a leading professional services firm that plans, designs and manages infrastructure projects across North America, today announced the launch of a national aviation practice to better support airport owners, operators, developers and airlines and the more than $151 billion of capital investments needed to improve airports and other aviation hubs throughout the United States.
The formation of STV’s national aviation practice builds on its recent successes at LaGuardia Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport, Newark Liberty International Airport, George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and Los Angeles International (LAX) Airport, among others. It also aligns with STV’s 2023-2025 Strategic Plan, which is focused on expanding the organization’s markets, services and geographic footprint to meet the needs of current and future clients.
STV’s national aviation practice will fully leverage its broad array of planning, design, engineering and program and construction management (PM/CM) services, while also advising clients on upstream services, such as digital advisory, electrification, mobility technologies, resilience and sustainable design, to deliver transformative infrastructure at landside and airside facilities, as well as terminals and other auxiliary facilities.
“STV has helped reshape aviation hubs in some of the nation’s busiest communities,” said Joe Thompson, senior vice president and national aviation practice lead at STV. “Our new aviation team combines the unmatched experience of our national and local experts to provide clients with the economic insights, design trends and emerging construction technologies that are defining the future direction of aviation infrastructure.”
Airport traffic has reached pre-COVID levels and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) projects that passenger traffic will increase 158% of 2019-levels by 2040. Cargo traffic is expected to increase 167% during the same time span and the 10 busiest days in airport travel history all occurred in 2024. Additionally, airport infrastructure is aging fast with operator assets depreciating about $8 billion every year.
STV’s award-winning aviation work includes program and construction management services at LaGuardia Airport for both Terminal B and Delta Air Lines’ Terminal C, as well as serving as the architect- and engineer-of-record, in association with Grimshaw, at Newark Liberty International Airport Terminal A. The firm has also provided a range of planning, design and program and construction management services at Hartfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, DFW International Airport and IAH in Houston, Texas.
