STV’s Pennsylvania team recently partnered with public agencies and other professional services firms from across the Eastern Pennsylvania region to successfully launch TPD, Inc.’s Transportation Quality Initiative (TQI) Shared Interns Program. This collaborative effort, a vital part of the TQI Workforce Development Program, connected aspiring professionals with industry experts while enhancing community engagement in transportation.

The initiative brought together 27 interns who are gaining practical experience through placements with respected organizations, including the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Districts 5-0 and 6-0 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike, along with STV and other members from the Associated Pennsylvania Constructors and the American Council of Engineering Companies Pennsylvania Chapter. This program not only nurtured the interns’ careers but also positioned them to contribute meaningfully to Pennsylvania’s transportation landscape.

“At STV, we believe collaboration is key to a thriving transportation industry,” said Geoffrey Stryker, vice president and engineering director. “This program provides our interns’ tremendous exposure to our clients and business partners, jump-starts their professional networks, and deepens their understanding of the multitude of career opportunities within the field of transportation in Pennsylvania.”

Running from June to the first week of August, the program included a variety of activities designed to enrich the interns’ experiences. Participants engaged with industry leaders, participated in team-building exercises and expanded their professional networks. A standout moment was the visit to TPD’s headquarters in Pottstown, where interns attended sessions focused on engineering, construction management and consulting operations. This summer is the second year of the program, and the first year in which STV has participated.

To celebrate National Intern Day on July 31, the STV Philadelphia office hosted a special event to enrich the intern experience. The day included a company overview, a look at the I-95 Betsy Ross Interchange (BRI) project and a panel discussion with project managers sharing insights. Interns also participated in a team building Quizzo game and a site visit to BRI to connect classroom knowledge with real-world applications. The event showcased STV’s commitment to fostering growth and developing future transportation leaders through engaging, hands-on learning experiences.

STV’s interns, including Samuel Lockwood, Eugene Ansah, Jason Masciulli, Lana Carboni, Alex Cruceru and Zeena Jalal, have shared their experiences working on various projects. Jason Masciulli said, “This program has helped deepen my interest in the field,” reflecting on the program’s influence.

Weekly visits to participating firms have allowed interns to explore the vital processes involved in building and maintaining the state’s infrastructure. Lana Carboni said, “Listening to project managers’ journeys opened my eyes to endless possibilities in this profession.”

The TQI Shared Interns Program embodies STV’s dedication to developing future transportation leaders by engaging the next generation of professionals and strengthening community ties. As the program progresses, STV looks forward to seeing how these talented interns will influence the industry and contribute to Pennsylvania’s infrastructure efforts.
