STV Supports Safer Streets in Los Angeles through SAFE Finish the Run 5K

Members of STV’s Los Angeles team recently came together to support safer streets by participating in the Streets Are For Everyone (SAFE) Finish the Run 5K at Griffith Park. For STV’s Los Angeles practice, the event underscores the firm’s day-to-day focus on urban mobility, multimodal safety and Vision Zero-aligned planning efforts aimed at reducing serious injuries and fatalities on city streets.

The annual event brings together runners, advocates, and community members to raise awareness around traffic safety and to support efforts to reduce traffic‑related deaths and serious injuries.

Streets Are For Everyone (SAFE) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for pedestrians, bicyclists, and drivers by working toward a goal of zero traffic fatalities. SAFE takes a holistic approach to traffic safety, combining advocacy, public education, community outreach, policy engagement, and direct support for individuals and families impacted by traffic violence.

This year marked the third consecutive year STV has participated in the SAFE Finish the Run event. STV’s participation reinforces how everyday planning decisions, street design strategies and policy-driven safety initiatives directly shape safer, more inclusive outcomes for all road users, bridging professional practice with lived experience.

“As a victim of traffic violence, both as a pedestrian and as a bicyclist, this organization is very important to me and helps reinforce the work I do every day here at STV to improve our transportation environment in Los Angeles,” said Jesse Budlong, AICP, ENV SP, planner at STV.

Traffic safety remains a critical issue across Los Angeles. According to SAFE, 48 percent of all collisions in Los Angeles are hit-and-runs. Organizations like SAFE play a vital role in raising awareness, supporting those affected by crashes, and advocating for systemic changes that make roads safer for everyone. Creating safer streets ultimately requires shared responsibility – bringing together engineers, planners, advocates, policymakers and community members to advance solutions that protect people and strengthen the places they move through every day.
