HARRISBURG, PA – STV, a leading professional services firm that plans, designs and manages infrastructure projects across North America, today announced it has completed preliminary engineering and final design for four major highway and bridge projects spanning from the historic fields of Gettysburg to the vibrant community of Lancaster. The company is now providing construction consultation on the four projects, as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 8’s 2024 construction program, a $257-million investment to transform southcentral Pennsylvania’s infrastructure. These projects include:

  1. Route 116 bridge improvements in Cumberland Township, Adams County.
  2. Route 1009 (Wierman Road) bridge replacement in Huntington Township, Adams County.
  3. A three-bridge contract includes replacing bridges in Lancaster County: Route 741 in Paradise Township; Route 2014 (Maple Shade Road) in Colerain Township; and Walnut Run Road (Route 2031) in Strasburg Township.
  4. Route 2025 (Bridge Street) bridge replacement in Christiana Borough, Lancaster County.

STV is also nearing completion on the design for the Route 11 (King Street) bridge replacement over Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks in Shippensburg Borough and Southampton Township, Franklin County. The firm anticipates construction will begin in fall 2024.

Separately, three major STV design projects have already completed construction as part of District 8’s 2024 construction program:

  1. Replacements of the SR 0441-031 and SR 0441-033 Bridges in Conoy Township, Lancaster County.
  2. Bridge preservation on PA 23 (Marietta Avenue) over Norfolk Southern Railroad in East Hempfield Township, Lancaster County.
  3. Replacement of the SR 1015 Bridge over Conewango Creek in Straban Township, Adams County.

From improving access to national landmarks to strengthening vital community links, STV’s work on these local transportation projects enhances safety and connectivity while bringing new economic development opportunities to communities throughout the state.

“We’re proud to take a leading role delivering these crucial infrastructure projects and partnering with PennDOT to enhance transportation safety and mobility for District 8,” said Jason Galli, senior project manager at STV. “Our local team is part of these communities and are passionate about making a positive impact in the areas where we live and work.”

As part of its work on the Route 116 bridge improvements, STV committed to strengthening community bonds while respecting local heritage. Located near the historic Gettysburg National Military Park, this project required close collaboration with the National Park Service to ensure that the new design harmonizes with the area’s profound historical significance. Similarly, at the Route 11 bridge replacement project, the team developed a community-centered design working closely with the borough, school district, public transportation, other municipalities, the Norfolk Southern Railroad and local businesses to ensure the new bridge will meet the diverse needs of the Shippensburg community with a long-term infrastructure solution.

On the Route 1009 bridge replacement project, which is adjacent to State Game Lands, STV showcased its commitment to environmental responsibility by carefully coordinating with the Pennsylvania Game Commission to protect local wildlife habitats while improving transportation infrastructure.

In Lancaster County, STV combined three similar bridge projects into one agreement to improve efficiency. This smart planning demonstrates STV’s ability to streamline complex infrastructure projects and deliver cost-effective solutions without compromising on quality or safety. In Christiana Borough, the company collaborated closely with local officials to coordinate utility relocations for the Route 2025 (Bridge Street) bridge replacement, ensuring minimal disruption to residents’ daily lives.

In addition to its recently completed projects, STV previously completed three major projects in District 8’s 2024 program, including a bridge preservation effort on PA 23, the SR 0441 bridges replacement and the SR 1015 bridge replacement. STV coordinated with local municipalities and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission to maintain recreational boating and avoid disrupting the nearby agricultural business. For the SR 0441 bridges replacement project, a Minority, Women and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) firm led the team, bringing STV on board for support. STV integrated its staff into the DBE’s team, providing mentorship to ensure project success while offering the DBE valuable growth opportunities.
