Scott Pridgen (left in photo), quality assurance manager in STV’s Morrisville office, was recently honored with The Order of the Long Leaf Pine, one of highest civilian accolades conferred by the Governor of North Carolina. The award recognized and celebrated Scott’s 36 years of dedicated service to the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT).
The Order of the Long Leaf Pine is the state’s most distinguished award for lifetime achievements and community service. Established in 1961, it is reserved for individuals who have demonstrated a profound and lasting impact on the state, requiring a minimum of 30 years of exceptional contributions to North Carolina and its communities.
Pridgen, who joined STV in early 2024 after a distinguished 36-year career at NCDOT, began his work with the agency in 1988 as a temporary aide. Over the next three decades, he advanced through roles across various departments, including in roadway design and engineering coordination, and ultimately in Division 6 under the leadership of former Division Engineer Greg Burns. Throughout his tenure, he contributed to advancing major projects, including improvements to I-95, and supported local communities through initiatives that fostered economic growth, improved transportation safety and enhanced quality of life.
“I was fortunate to have incredible supervisors and leaders who shaped my career,” Pridgen said. “Harry Thompson, Victor Barbour, Greg Burns and so many others – I learned so much from them. Moving into Division 6 – thanks to the guidance of Tracey Pittman, former Division 6 Construction Engineer – was the best decision for me and my career, but my background in roadway design was always invaluable.”
Following his retirement from NCDOT in December 2023, Pridgen joined STV where he now focuses on what he loves most: reviewing plans while mentoring the next generation of engineers.
“Back in my engineering coordination days, I began working with consultants and reviewing their plans – and I grew to really enjoy it. That’s exactly what I get to do now at STV,” Pridgen said. “I also really enjoy mentoring younger engineers, answering their questions and helping them grow. Supporting the next generation has always been one of the most rewarding parts of my career.”
“Scott’s dedication, experience and leadership are already making a significant impact at STV,” said Terry Snow, STV vice president and Carolinas district manager. “We are proud to have him on our team and are grateful for his mentorship to our younger staff.”
The Order of the Long Leaf Pine was presented to Pridgen by NCDOT Division 6 Engineer Lee Jernigan. In addition to this honor, Pridgen also received NCDOT’s Road Gang Member Award for his outstanding and enduring contributions to transportation in North Carolina.
“I was completely surprised,” Pridgen said. “I’ve never received anything like this before, and it made me feel truly honored. My time at NCDOT was a long, fulfilling journey, but I was ready for a change. Now, I’m excited for this new chapter at STV.”
